Choice 1871 Dated Hand-Wrought Needlework Sampler
1871-Dated, Hand-Wrought Needlepoint Sampler by “Maria Demarest,” Framed, Choice Very Fine.
A beautiful late 19th Century Hand-Embroidered Needlepoint Sampler dated May 1871 by “Maria Demarest.” These needlework samplers allowed young women to practice their craft, and have become highly collected for their social history and window to the past. This Sampler measures 8.75” x 7.5” (by sight), and in a simple pine wooden frame to an overall size of 10.75” x 9.5”. This Sampler features a full set of capital letters on first three lines using a light gray or off white thread. Full set of lowercase letters in beautiful dark green thread are on the next two lines. The makers name “Maria Demarest” is next, stitched in vibrant dark red thread, with the date following in a blue-gray hued thread. A few small discreet separations at the top. Overall, a very nice condition 1871 Sampler, ready for display.
