Engraved map, with separate sheet of the vicinity views (surrounding a block of tables and statistics); both fully hand-colored. Map is 61.8x85.7 cm (24 ¼x33 ¼"); sheet of views 64x88 cm (25 ¼x34½"), both folding into original embossed leather folder decoratively lettered in gilt with metal clasp, 18.2x11 cm (7 ¼x4 ¼").
Beautiful example of this brightly colored map of what is now the eastern half of the United States, paired with a sheet of 32 small maps of the vicinities of the leading cities of the nation surrounding a number of statistical tables. These latter include the population of the states, their various classes (white men, white women, male and female coloured and the number that are slaves), agriculture and manufactured products, etc. Warren Heckrotte notes that "This map was also issued with the 32 small maps arranged around the sides of main map, generally as a wall map."
