Alessi (est. 1921)

The family company, founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi, is particularly known for the production of kitchen utensils. As early as the 1950s the Italian manufacturer, managed by Carlo Alessi, began to collaborate with external product designers. The wire baskets or the famous shaker designed by Luigi Massoni and Carlo Mazzeri are now considered industrial design icons. In the 1970s, Alberto Alessi laid the foundations for Alessi to become one of the most renowned factories of Italian design. Designers and architects such as Franco Sargiani, Ettore Sottsass, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni, Alessandro Mendini, Aldo Rossi, Michael Graves and Philippe Starck collaborated in the 1970s and 1980s with Alessi. To this day, Zaha Hadid, David Chipperfield or Peter Zumthor contribute with their designs to the success of the company. The broad product range comprises playful styling products as well as re-editions of Bauhaus design classics.
