Lot 0094 Details

Description
Kirchner Mechanicals This is a very unusual Novelty postcard. The front image is a signed Raphael Kirchner. When opened, a clown, with a honeycomb body, dangles out as a surprise. This appears to be a homemade postcard except for the fact that both of the cards have the same back on them and the back postcard does not have any image printed on the front, so it was designed to be just a back. This could have been something created by a postcard manufacturer to capture the Novelty audience. A small, thin string hangs from the top hat which has been made to fold over the edge of the card. The string could have been wrapped around the card to act as a securing device, then as a method of hanging the postcard after opened. Easy to speculate, impossible to know the reason of this card. 1
