A selection of Victorian jewellery. To include a late Victorian 15ct gold and split pearl mourning brooch, a garnet and split pearl floral motif brooch, a pair of red paste ear studs, together with a cabochon paste ring. One ear stud deficient of post. First with worn hallmarks for Birmingham. Lengths 1.2 to 3.6cms. Weight 18.9gms.
Overall condition good to poor. Surface scratches and discolouration in keeping with general wear and age. To the chalcedony brooch the surround is broken and has come away. The main panel is chipped. The split pearls are rubbed. The ear studs have posts suitable for pierced ears and one post is deficient. Backs deficient. The band on the ring is split to one side and has sizing marks. Approximate ring size O. To the 15ct gold brooch the pin is a base metal replacement. The split pearl has a creamy-white colour with pink overtones and fairly good lustre. Without the aid of laboratory equipment, it has not been possible to determine if these cultured pearls are from a fresh or saltwater source.
