China, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi period An important white porcelain libation cup, made to imitate rhinoceros horn carved with motifs in relief. An object of great value, the outer surface worked in high relief with animal and plant motifs that are separated from the surface and finely worked to imitate polished rhinoceros horn. Similar models began to be produced in the Ming period. The example presented here is impressive for its size and the fine quality of the porcelain used.Provenance: recorded prior to 1930 in the family home in London, passed by inheritance to the present owner. h 9 cm
