Description
ASHWORTH ENGLISH POTTERY IRONSTONE TABLE ARTICLES, LOT OF 11, comprising eight dinner plates, an oval serving plate, an oval bowl, and a footed cake plate; each printed and over-painted in an Asian-inspired motif, decorated under the rims in alternating orange- and black-ground panels with stylized floral blossoms, centering a stylized scene with pagodas, waves, and floral blossom and foliate decoration. Printed "Royal Arms" mark and impressed "ASHWORTH / REAL / IRONSTONE / CHINA" to undersides. G. L. Ashworth & Sons, Ltd., Hanley, Staffordshire, England. 1862-1880. Plates 10 3/8" D; cake plate 12" D.
Literature: Decoration parallels Geoffrey A. Godden - Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone & Granite Wares, p. 159, pl. 122. This plate shows a Mason's example, but decoration is close to identical.
Provenance: Property of the Betty B. DeMuth estate, Winchester, VA.

Condition
Excellent condition overall, some wear to decoration, some minor glaze flaking.
