Description
An extremely rare and whimsical Wedgwood Majolica ‘Mr. Punch & Toby’ bowl c.1878, shape no 631. The cobalt blue bowl modelled with four ‘ Mr. Punch’ head handles and supported by four ‘Toby’ dogs. Mr. Punch was the main character in the much loved Victorian puppet show ‘Punch and Judy’ that included his dog, Toby. This is an iconic item that is an important addition to any Majolica or Wedgwood collection. A similar example can be seen in Majolica, Karmason Stacke 2002, Page 79, 14”d, 6”h
