Author:
Title: Antiphonal manuscript on vellum
Place Published: Spain
Publisher:
Date Published: Early to mid-16th century

86 leaves, with five-line staves of music with text beneath. Red highlights used extensively (rubrication). 41x22.8 cm. (23 x 15"). Original binding of calf over wooden boards.

Notable for its use of lavishly decorated initials, and in particular the beautiful Beatus intial, based on the 'B ' from the opening words of Psalm one: 'Beatus vir qui non abiit in consilio impiorum' (Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly).

Condition
A bit of light soiling to some leaves, varying degrees of yellowing to the hair side of the leaves, otherwise contents in very good condition, generally clean and fresh, with ample margins. Binding very worn, boards split vertically but holding, tape used. Known to be lacking some leaves.
