Description
An early Victorian gold memento mori brooch, of marquise-shape outline, the porcelain panel painted to depict a maiden with an anchor and a dove, meaning hoping for peace in the after life, within a gold mount, 'EM' initial inscription to the reverse. Length 3.6cms. Weight 5.4gms.
Condition
Overall fair to good condition. The panel is beneath glass, there is minor wear to small areas of the painted panel, mainly to the top and bottom points and to part of one edge. The pin is in working order, the clasp looks to be a replacement. There is a suspension loop attached. There are light surface scratches throughout from general wear. The solder join to the mount is visible, and there is a very small slither of mount missing next to the solder join.
