Description
The Porsche 911 2.8 RSR could not have had a better race debut, winning the 1973 Daytona 24hrs virtually straight from the factory. Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood took overall victory following the demise of the prototypes. It was equally as dominant in the European GT Championship. The 2.8 RSR was truly a production based racer, the original underpinnings were from the road 911S and a dynasty would evolve to rightly put the Porsche 911 as one of the greatest competitors at all levels of motorsport...
For this reason, the Porsche RSR Replica market has grown enormously and demand is far out-stripping supply of quality machines. Unlike many Porsche's of the 1980's period, this one has had just five owners from new, each taking extraordinary care of the servicing and maintenance of the car alongside regular usage. This RSR Replica finished in period Grand Prix White with Blue Carrera decals is based on a 1985 911 Carrera 3.2 shell and all the wings and bonnet and ducktail are fibreglass. The wheels are correct 16" Fuchs as used in period with 225/50z/r16 tyres to the front, and 245/45z/r16 tyres to the rear that complement the look. The interior is largely standard and in very good order.
The history file is very comprehensive throughout its life with Original service book including 20 stamps recording service from 1985 - 2002 at 125,000 miles. Most recently, the car has undergone the RSR replica works as you see today and benefits from a top-end engine and full 24,000 mile service in July of this year at 145,000 miles. The 915 gearbox was rebuilt and clutch replaced at 82,000miles in 1998, both performing faultlessly.
In total, this is a well-executed RSR Replica which drives exceptionally well yet remains reasonably docile in traffic. This is a properly engineered and maintained Porsche with handling to match benefitting from retaining a comfortable cabin. Grand Prix White perfectly encompasses the period look and the whole package is great fun and an awesome presence.
