TAYLOR, PRENTISS. Scottsboro Limited. Lithograph on cream wove paper. 218x142 mm; 8 1/2x5 1/2 inches, full margins. Proof, signed in pencil, lower right, from a total edition of 80. A very good impression. [New York], 1932
Lithograph in honor of the Scottsboro Boys whose trials, retrials, and wrongful prosecution lasted for years. This lithograph was part of an early collaboration with Langston Hughes (see lot 240.)
Taylor (1907-91) was born in Washington, DC and studied at the Art Student's League in New York. He was President of the Society of Washington Printmakers for 34 years, and produced 142 lithographs between 1931 and 1983. His work is widely exhibited in The U.S. and abroad, and is in many museum collections, including the Smithsonian, the Phillips Collection, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum.
