Lot 3672 Details
Description
Painter and printmaker Arthur Secunda was born in New Jersey and educated at New York University, the Art Students League, New York, and art academies in Paris and Rome. He lives a good part of every year in southern France, taking inspiration from the lush countryside and Mediterranean climate. A recipient of Tamarind Lithography Workshop grants in 1970 and 1972, Secunda's exploration into printmaking has very often entailed the use of many different techniques, including photography and collage, to get the desired textural quality. The sensual tones and rhythms of his work give them an immediacy which takes a great deal of thought and technical expertise to achieve. His now famous screenprint The Road to Aries, published in 1976, took six months to complete because of the many layers of carefully applied colors. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, are among the many institutions which include Secunda's work in their permanent collections.
An appraisal for this piece, by a certified independant appraiser from the International Fine Art Appraisers Association (IFAA), is available for an additional $50.00.
