Philip Miller was a botanist and chief gardener of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries' Chelsea Physic Garden, and made it the world's most richly stocked botanic garden. A more manageable version of Miller's massive Gardeners Dictionary, The Gardeners Kalendar was the most widely used gardening guide in England and America in the 18th Century and still of great practical value today. Allegorical frontispiece by John Pine, with monthly chapter head and tail pieces.
