Item Details
Description
"China: A History in Art" by Bradley Smith and Wan-go Weng, First issue of the Revised Edition, published by Gemini Smith and Doubleday, 1979. The art and history of this fascinating country are seen through the perceptive eyes and the skilled hands of Chinese artists who in each era recorded the life of their times. In 296 pages the reality and the spirituality of the Chinese people are recorded. There are 305 plates, all in full color, showing many of the greatest Chinese treasures.

Original dust jacket [a little soiling and edge wear]; hard boards, original 'imperial' yellow cloth with red decoration on front boards and red lettering on spine; large format: 9" x 12.1/2"; decorated endpapers, 296 pages including Index on high quality heavy paper, fully illustrated, very good condition.

Wan-go Weng is a writer-designer-film producer, as well as an important collector of Chinese art. He is a leading authority on Chinese painting and calligraphy. Bradley Smith is the author of Japan: A History in Art; Spain: A History in Art; and Mexico: A History in Art.

"Within this handsome book is a key to understanding the long road that China, one of the great powers of the ancient and the modern world, has traveled in its dramatic history. It also provides a colorful guide to the course of Chinese art from the Neolithic Age to the eve of its industrialization and re-emergence on the world stage."
