Autographed carte-de visite of Major General Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) United States Army officer and 18th president of the United States. Carte de visite showing bust view of Grant wearing uniform with major general rank straps. Carte is signed on obverse below image "U.S. Grant, Lt. Gen. U.S.A.". Carte is accompanied by small envelope with pencil inscription "Gen. Grants autographed photo sent to Aunt Eoa & grandmother in Ask of embroidered saddle cloth. Letter accompanying it most sold". Carte presents backmark of Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries as well as frontmark of Brady -Washington. Tones of image are strong with manuscript ink being dark. Surface of carte exhibits some extremely light soiling with minor corner bumps. Provenance: Gary Wolfer collection.
