Description
The most exciting names in design and illustration today apply their talents to some of the most important and influential films of all time. This volume gathers highlights from designs commissioned by the Criterion Collection, featuring covers, supplemental art, and never-before-seen sketches and concept art plus a gallery of every Criterion cover since the collection's first laserdisc in 1984. From avant-garde experiments to big-budget blockbusters, cult favorites to the towering classics of world cinema, the depth and breadth of what film can be is on display in these striking images. Whether they are painstakingly faithful recreations or bold re-imaginings, the stunningly diverse designs collected here offer new ways for cinephiles and design aficionados alike to engage with the world's greatest filmmakers. (Google Books)
Dimensions: 10.25w x 1.25d x 13.25h
Provenance: This item was curated from the estate of Kenneth Robert Stanley (1957-2022) who was a Detroit musician, world traveler, and collector. Per Rick Manore, co-founder of CPOP Gallery, "Ken was a postal worker for over 30 years, Ken's career afforded him the ability to buy and collect art. His apartment was like a small museum of both famous and up-and-coming artists' work. Ken especially collected Detroit artists, many of whom would become household names. Works by Glenn Barr and Niagara would share walls with Mark Ryden and Roy Lichtenstein. His collection of pristine vinyl records and Rock ephemera was eclectic and focused. Ken's book collection was also tuned to his Post-Postmodern taste. This auction is about more than just great art - it is a testimonial to the love and passion for art and music by Kenneth Robert Stanley."
