Description
TEMPLER GERALD: (1898-1979) British Field Marshal of World War II, who had also served in World War I and taken part in the crushing of the Arab Revolt in Palestine, and was later Chief of the Imperial General Staff (1955-58). T.L.S., G W R Templer, one page, 4to, Whitehall, London, 3rd October 1957, to C. W. Tozer, on the printed stationery of the Chief of the Imperial General Staff at the War Office. Templer states that his cousin had forwarded Tozer's letter and remarks 'Since you ask me for the list of medals here they are, and if you want to pursue this effort I am quite prepared to sign the completed page for you in due course', and continuing to list his awards and decorations including the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (GCB), the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (GCMG), the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE), the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), 1914-18 Victory Medal, 1939-45 Star, Normandy Star, Italy Star, Coronation Medal - Queen Elizabeth II, Commander of the Order of the Crown of Belgium with Palm, Croix de Guerre 1940 of Belgium with Palm, Commander Legion of Merit USA etc. Together with the collector's display of five rows of Templer's military ribbons, attractively mounted within plain black card and neatly corner mounted to a 4to page removed from an album, with an ink caption beneath, and further signed ('Gerald Templer F.M.') by Templer in bold blue fountain pen ink below. An unusual signed presentation. One minor scuff to the upper edge of the letter and a couple of light creases, generally VG, 2
