Description
COLONIAL-ERA NATIVE AMERICAN LONG BLADE SPIKE TOMAHAWK / AXE, an unusually large example with hand-forged long blade with downward-curved spike and ovoid eye, replaced period-correct tiger maple handle with spherical carved butt end. Probably Iroquois. Mid 18th century. 21" LOA, head 13" L, blade 7" L, blade edge 3".
Literature: Parallels Hartzler and Knowles - Indian Tomahawks and Frontiersman Belt Axes, fig. 9, p. 40.
Provenance: Property from an important West Coast private collection.
Reportedly discovered in New York State.
