Item Details
Description
Kentucky long rifle attributed to Leonard Reedy of Berks and later Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Reedy worked in Wormelsdorf, Berks County under John Bonewitz and later moved to Gratz, Pennsylvania and had a working career from 1810 to 1837. This rifle has a 41 - 5/8" swamped octagonal .54 caliber rifled barrel with pewter blade front sight and Berks style rear sight with no other markings. Flint Berks style hand forged lock plate with waterproof pan and double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with brass furniture including typical Reedy style 4-piece engraved patchbox with Reedy's typical floral finial. Berks style beveled sideplate and typical buttplate. Gun has 1 silver inlay as a thumbpiece. PROVENANCE: Jim Carpenter, Cliff Messaros, Al Fisher, John Meye and Ron Gabel, John Vagnetti. CONDITION: Overall good with well hidden professional wrist repair. Metal is fading to a plum color with some surface corrosion. Wood has nice original looking aged finish with an old, repaired, barely noticeable wrist break. Brass has aged patina exhibiting a nice golden yellow color. Pitted bore with functioning mechanics.
