Description
A Lyon France .950 silver tea service. Circa 1924 to 1964. Neoclassical urn form body, foliate finials and borders, raised on claw foot legs with palmette flanked by flowers shoulders. Minerva head .950 silver stand mark and makers mark of a chalice between "HN". Possibly Henry Nesme (France, d. 1935) or subsequent companies. Includes: teapot 10 1/2" tall and 19.7 ozt, lidded sugar 7" and 12.46 ozt, and creamer 6" and 6.98 ozt.
Provenance: The Nesme are an important silversmithing family in Lyon, France. The mark is associated with Lyon, 122 rue Saint-Georges. Henry Nesme used the "HN" chalace mark from 1924 till the founding of Nesme & Ollagnier
Manufacture d'Orfèvrerie d'Eglise et de Table fr in 1926 until 1950. In 1950, Jean-Marie-Ferdinand Ollagnier continued to use the mark until 1964.
