Rare US 1917 Washington Postal Stamp Sheet Double Error
Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $1500**

North America, United States, ca. 1917 CE. A rare block of 100 US issued 2 cent Washington red dye stamps from the #7942 error plate with a perforation gauge of 11. If you look closely there are 2 of the 5 cent "error of color" stamps, one above the other in the second and third row from the bottom, and fourth column in. The Washington issued stamps were issued between 1908 and 1922- displaying the president's head in profile withing an oval using a carmine-colored ink. During the production of the 1916 - 1917 series on the #7942 plate, three of the 400 stamp images had become noticeably worn. Two of these images were a vertical pair, seen here. The technician accidentally transferred 5-cent images to fix this worn plate, and the mistake for not noticed for weeks. Size of sheet: 10" L x 9.25" W (25.4 cm x 23.5 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
