second half 19th century, boldly formed cast iron form with pierced sheet iron tail, old surface with traces of red and white paint, now set on a modern black finished stand, rooster only 31 x 35 x 2-1/2 in., height with stand 51 in.
Note: A nearly identical weathervane is illustrated in Bishop and Coblentz, A Gallery of American Weathervanes and Whirligigs, page 34. That example is from the carriage house of Chateau Sur Mer in Newport Rhode Island.

one leg off but present with evidence of previous solder repair, two repaired old bullet holes in tail, minor bending to tail, surface distress and corrosion with paint losses consistent with outside use
