Description
800-1600 CE South Carolina. The piece has been carved from a single piece of stone with hair up center of head and carved ears flanking facial features above arms at lower body. The piece is in original as found condition with no restoration. H6" W3" D2 7/8" The piece was discovered by the current owner's father Mr. James H Collins of Rock Hill, South Carolina in the 1970s. He discovered the piece at 225 Cummings St in Rockhill while tilling his field. The piece has not left the family until its offering here today with Wooten & Wooten. It was discovered two years prior to the other example offered in this sale as well on the same property and in the same field as it was being tilled by Mr. Collins.
