Description

18th/19th century, comprising: two British examples, each of rectangular form with hinged lid opening to divided, lidded three compartment interiors, top and sides with ovoid fan inlay: Chippendale example with brass pull on shaped bracket feet, 5-1/4 x 9 x 5 in.; one example with inlaid initials "ML WB?" to top, 4-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 4-1/2 in.; Dutch example with star inlay and metal mounts, three fitted and lidded interior brass canisters, with one sliding side panel opening to reveal hidden drawer, with silk lining, on bracket feet, 5 x 7-1/2 x 5-3/4 in. Note: From a private collection representing 18th and 19th century tea caddies and boxes of various designs from America, Britain, Asia and Europe.

each with scattered surface scratches and bumps, some staining to interiors, possible reveneering and later restorations throughout; Chippendale example with cracks and breaks and repairs to feet; initialed example with some small edge chips and losses; Continental example with some discoloration to mounts, dents and warping to brass canisters
