Silvered bronze, Viking heart ring of a classic form, dating to the period of conversion to Christianity. A little over size 7 1/4 with broad, 5.7mm rounded face band retaining the base nub from the Medieval Byzantine style. Raised fretted point heard engraved with the four-point Star of Bethlehem on a field of crescents. The ring is probably from the earlier Viking pagan period and was decorated after the conversion. Viking paganism declined in the last half of the 11th century with the establishment of numerous abbeys in Viking territories. By the 12th century, conversion was substantially complete and Vikings fought valiantly in the First Crusade. Professionally refurbished with silver overlay for contemporary wear. It comes with certification of authenticity, and gift boxed.
