De Stalo or Steiner Style Violin with Extra Strings Bow
Item Details
Description
De Stalo or Steiner Style Violin with Extra Strings Bow and Shoulder Rest. This violin is in good used and playable condition. The violin has been tested and appraised by The Cornell Violin in Altamonte Springs, FL. The appraiser describes the violin thusly, "This violin of moderate patina dark amber varnish, a table of medium-grain spruce and tightly curled, one-piece maple back and ribs, appears to be of German/Saxon workshop origin. There is no internal label or markings to suggest a maker, but it is in the style of a De Salo or Stainer model instrument from approximately 1880’s-1920’s. This instrument is adorned with double-purfling and ebony components. This is a “through-neck” violin and the fingerboard has been wedged. There are areas on this instrument with condition issues and previous repair, and the scroll and general carving reflect decent craftsmanship. The violin is in good playable condition and its sound is of good quality; resonant and well-rounded. I believe this instrument will be a good candidate for an advancing student. The violin measures 35.4cm from back plate." The violin comes with a nylon covered case with purple velvet lining (see images). The case itself measures 30.5" L x 9.5" W x 6" H. Case is in good used condition with moderate signs of wear. It can be zipped and buckled closed. The violin comes with a bow which is in good used condition. The hairs on the bow are all in tact, though they show some patina from age. The hair is taut and the bow appears to be in workable order. It measures 29" L. The violin also comes with a Playonair shoulder rest and extra Pirastro strings. The strings included are: 2 Piastro Gold Violin E1 strings, and 3 violin E Stahl Synthetic strings.
