There is something enchanting about this small painting. The dog, romping through the woods, seems quite happy as he pursues his just-out-of-reach quarry. He must have been someone’s beloved pet as he is a bit chubbier than most of this type.; The piece is well painted in the naïve style. The colors of the landscape are the traditional earthy colors used during the period for this subject matter. It was painted on a piece of thick wood board so that the nuances and grain of the wood show. This gives it a nice texture and adds to the earthy feel. The painting is signed "T. Eliot" in the lower right corner.; It is housed in its original wood and gesso gilded frame that beautifully brings out the colors in the painting. It has acquired a beautiful soft gold, lemon-yellow color. The patina is soft and glowing, just wonderful to look at.; The painting is in excellent antique condition. The frame is also in excellent antique condition. There is some missing gilt, especially on the bottom, though this is not very noticeable when hung.; It measures 9-½ inches wide by 8 inches high, including the frame.
