Item Details
Description
Included in the lot are a 23" Lenci, representing a girl from the Italian island of Sardinia, wearing distinguishable costume with basic colors of orange, yellow and brown, with appliqued felt animals and figures attached to the lower part of the skirt, and inside the skirt is a ribbon identifying her as a Lenci from Torino. Based on the modeling of the face, one would assume that this doll is just post World War II, from the very late 1940's to very early 1950's, as it has a distinguishing look about the face which is slightly different from the pre-war Lencis. She has all linen underwear, a black mohair wig, a long scarf tied over the head and brass hanging ball buttons. In addition, she retains a wicker basket and sewn into the basket are orange felt pieces of fruit. Originally, as one can see from a loose thread on her finger and another loose thread on the edge of the basket, the basket would have been dangling from her right hand, although if one wants to re-create the authenticity of the positioning, it would be easy to do with basic sewing skills. The other doll is a 21" 1980's era Anili with pink felt coat, hat and shoes, a white dress underneath with pink criss-cross design and a curly synthetic wig. She has very bright blue eyes painted to the right, with highlighted pink lips. Both dolls have slight surface dust. Condition: (Good). Dimensions: Larger: 22" T.
