North-West Persian Dagger
Item Details
Description
Early 1st millennium BC. A bronze dagger with long tapered blade, rounded shoulders and broad flattened mid-rib. See similar blade in Christie's, The Axel Guttmann Collection of Ancient Arms and Armour, part 1, London, 2002, no.31. 485 grams, 45.7cm (18"). Ex Abelita family collection, 1980-2015. Edged weapons with tangs were the simplest form produced by the Luristan workshops, and this basic type was hardly altered in the period when bronze was the most important material for the construction of weapons. The retention of this basic type with so few alterations makes it very difficult to precisely date such items. In this category, the bronze daggers, dirks, and swords exist only as blades, and have lost their organic handles over the course of time.
