WW2 Multiple signed No. 5, Pilot Advanced Flying Unit. [RAF Ternhill] 1942 Xmas Day Menu. 27 signatures, including: F/O John Walton Allinson DFC, 104481, The Rev Edward Frederick Holwell Dunnicliff, 115597 Born in Nottingham in 1901, the son of Frederick John Dunnicliff. He was educated at Nottingham High School; Worcester College, Oxford; and St Stephens House, Oxford. Began his clerical career as Curate of Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, 1924-1927 and Curate-in-Charge of Chilwell, Nottinghamshire, 1927-1928. Appointed vicar of Ollerton, Nottinghamshire in 1928, and moved to St Lawrence, Mansfield in 1934. Keen local historian. His book The Story of Selston Parish Church Nottinghamshire was published in 1949. S/L Frederick Gregory, 90731, F/O Sidney Roland James, 122134, F/L John Granville Lingard DFC, 44774 DFC. Acting Squadron Leader John Granville LINGARD, 44774, R. A. F., 143 Sqn. This officer has completed much operational flying and has set a fine example of keenness and devotion to duty. He has led his flight and sometimes the squadron in numerous attacks on shipping and his great skill and inspiring leadership have contributed in good measure to the success achieved. One morning in June 1944, he led his flight in an attack on a minesweeper and four R boats. In the fight the minesweeper was set on fire and one of the R boats was sunk. Squadron Leader Lingard has rendered much valuable service. LG, 25 July 1944.
