Description
Cecil Beaton (1904-1980)
Three quarter length portrait of Audrey Hepburn seated on a white chair, silver print, mounted on board, inscribed on verso in pencil "Audrey Hepburn 1963, panel 10", 1963, printed c.1974, 47 x 38cm, framed and glazed
Note: This and the following seven lots comprise photographs that formed part of an exhibition of Cecil Beaton's photographs in 1974 at the Kodak Gallery in High Holborn to mark Beaton's seventieth birthday. They are much larger than the usual size of Cecil Beaton's photographs, no doubt expressly so for exhibition purposes. Beaton was very exigent about the quality of the printing of his photographs and no doubt would have demanded that his approval was sought and given before the photographs, most probably printed by Kodak, were exhibited.
The portrait was taken on the set of the 1964 film of "My Fair Lady" starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, for which Cecil Beaton also designed the costumes and sets.
