Item Details

Description

ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED IRONSTONE ARTICLES, LOT OF FIVE, each having polychrome overglaze enamel decorations, comprising a wash pitcher and basin with mulberry/purple transfer featuring "TYROL" pattern, a teapot and sugar with blue transfer patterns including floral motif and ruins with pyramid and flower design, and a teapot with purple/mulberry transfer "FLORILLA" pattern, cover having bluish-purple transfer. Marks include printed pattern names, a garter with "IRONSTONE CHINA / J. WE[DGWOOD]", "E.C.", and various numerals/letters. John Wedg Wood, Tunstall; Edward Challinor, Tunstall, England; and others. Mid 19th century. 12 3/4" HOA, basin 13 1/2" D rim.
Two undamaged; basin with chip to foot ring; sugar having some scattered areas of discoloration and cover with chip to interior flange; "Florilla" teapot with slightly yellowing restoration to interior gallery and spout.
