  • Title: Fascinating map of China, India, Tibet, 1860
  • Description: “Map of Hindoostan, Farther India, China and Tibet,” drawn in 1860 by W. Williams and published in Mitchell’s 1862 General Atlas. This is a wonderful map, printed from lithographic stones taken from steel engravings and hand-painted in vivid 19th century inks. An interesting not just above mid-center reads “Kunchinginga [Kangchenjunga] Mt. 28,178 ft Highest Known Mt. of the Globe.” At this time Mount Everest had not yet been discovered and named. The Great Wall of China is also shown. Denotes geographic features, towns, cities, and railroads in great detail, all framed by the stunning Mitchell floral border. A wonderful example in excellent condition with no major faults. 11.25 x 13.25
