Yet scores of pillows retrieved from Chinese Tang, Song and Ming Dynasty tombs (618-c1600) are made of cold, smooth, rock-hard porcelain. Archeologists believe that, like funerary utensils, kitchen vessels and weaponry, these figured in everyday life.
