FINE BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHICA_XXXII"Featuring The Civil War_Part 2, by photographers Matthew Brady and Alexander Gardner". The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 - May 26, 1865) was between the Union (states that are loyal to the federal union, or "the North") and the Confederacy (states that voted to secede, or "the South"). The central cause of the war was slavery, and it's expansion into territories acquired as a result of the Louisiana Purchase and the Mexican-American War. On the eve of the Civil War in 1860, four million of 32 million Americans (13%) were slaves, almost all in the South. The Civil War is also credited with what has been called 'The Birth Of Photojournalism', for prior to that there had never been practitioner's or outlets that distributed news specifically oriented to a more 'documentary format'. And as featured in one of our previous 2022 auctions, the man unanimously known as the American photographer of his time and the master of crafting photographic documentation of this war was in fact Matthew Brady. However in our "Sequel" to said prior sale, we are coupling the second most acknowledged master of this Civil War craft, Alexander Gardner. Gardner lived in Europe and visited The Great Exhibition in 1851 in Hyde Park, London where he saw the photography of American Matthew Brady. In 1856, he immigrated to the United States, initiated contact with Brady and came to work for him that year, continuing until 1862. In this auction one can immediately distinguish between the two for Gardner's works are all sepia toned prints that are signed and dated on recto below the image. All images herein are immaculately restored as dye based photolithograph prints with engaging titles such as 'BURYING CONFEDERATE DEAD', 'PRESIDENT LINCOLN ON BATTLEFIELD', 'MORTAR DICTATOR', 'DESTROYED HORSES AND WAGONS IN MAHERSBURG' etc.

Purchased two knives that were not ones pictured but worked with me to return them
I give a 5 star rating to Jasper52 not because I loved the two knives I won and paid for, but rather for how they have helped me to return them. I was very excited to bid on what looked to be, two high quality Damascus knives. What I received was not what was pictured. In fact, the first knife looked like something that you would by at a roadside stand at a flea market. It was complete garbage and either the person who made it, just started that day, or was had a vision impairment. In short, there was no quality. Although the second knife was a little better, it was clearly NOT the knife that was pictured on the auction. Jasper52 was very good about working with me on the return process. Both knives have been returned and it was not a problem. I am still waiting for my credit, but believe they will see things through to the end. I realize that this was not Jasper52's fault and appreciate how helpful they were to get the products returned. After spending over $300 on these two knives, I could not afford to keep the knives and set them aside in a drawer. I was saddened as I see these knives continue to be sold. I could not and would not ever bid on these knives unless I were certain the item I was bidding on was the actual knife I would receive. Thank you for your help Jasper52. Sincerely, Scott

Exceptional packing
Easy bidding and payment processing. The packing was exceptional. The shipping handlers would have had to drop the package from a 100 story building and then run over it with a semi-truck to damage the books considering how well protected they were! Thanks for an all around great experience!
